Get to know Jazzy Toes Founder, Winnie Liu!
Monday, July 18th, 2011This month, we are pleased to present a short Q&A with Jazzy Toes founder (and mom) Winnie Liu. Jazzy Toes is five years old and in that time it has grown from a good idea into an internationally recognized company. Winnie lets us in on some of the secret to her success:
Q: What was the inspiration for you to start up Jazzy Toes?
WL: When my son was born, I was looking for cute clothing for him, but I found that designs for boys were very limited, so I decided to launch JazzyToes to broaden the boys collection. Also, socks are something that all babies need, and you can never have enough socks, so we started from socks.
Q: How do you decide what designs you will make and sell?
WL: We decide on designs by thinking what design would fit well with certain outfits and themes. For instance, our sneakers are popular for daily wear, and the black and white wingtips are great when you dress up your little boy with a little suit for events like wedding or so.
Q: What has been your biggest challenge in starting up and running Jazzy Toes?
WL: Everything was more difficult than we thought, but I would say sales and marketing with limited budgets are most challenging.
Q: What has been the biggest reward from starting up and running Jazzy Toes?
WL: When celebrities like Amy Poehler called personally to place an order, I was ecstatic. I think it is most rewarding to see our brands everywhere in the world, to as far as Australia, UK, Hong Kong, and Tokyo.
Q: What tip can you give other women about running a business while being a mom?
WL: Running business while being a mom is not easy. Having good back up help at home is a must. Having a great team is also very important.
Q: What is the #1 piece of advice you would give any woman who is considering starting up her own business?
WL: I think women by nature are very organized and can multi-task. I encourage women to start their own business to carry out their dreams.
